BASIS OF POKER TOURNAMENTS

There is a great variety of poker tournaments in both online poker rooms and offline ones. Those tournaments are different due to the fact that they have diverse structure, number of players and duration among many other factors.

Before deciding in which tournament to take part it is advisable to make sure that you are familiar with the terminology that describes the competition, as that is vital to understand the terms and conditions of the tournament.


In the majority of them it is needed to pay an “entry fee” which is a small amount of money for the competition organizers. Moreover, it is also mandatory to pay the “buy in”, which is the price you have to pay to obtain the tournament chips and that will be added to the prize pool.

In some poker tournaments it is also required to pay the “re-buy” which will give the players the chance to buy more chips depending on the amount that they already posses. Similar to that is the “add-on”, which will also allow players to buy more chips at a different tournament stages regardless the amount they already have.

Lastly, the “prize pool” it refers to the amount of the final prize that will be shared among the players that finish in the first positions.
